Data from 224 male and 253 female chicks of Kadaknath (black meat chicken named as Kalamanshi) produced from three hatches maintained at Central Poultry Development Organization (Mumbai) were analyzed for body weights at day old, 4, 8, 12,16, 20 and 24 weeks of age. The least square means were 24.89 ±0.14, 117.91 ±1.89, 316.08 ±5.28, 641.84 ±8.69, 815.18 ±11.55, 1047.91 ±14.89 and 1259.98 ±52.15 grams in male respectively. Similarly the figures were 24.69 ±0.14, 112.72 ±1.72, 289.84 ±4.37, 565.49 ±7.01, 701.76 ±9.18, 890.06 ±11.11 and 1057.18 ±12.45 grams in female respectively. The relative growth rate (RGR) percentage of birds at 0-4, 4-8, 8-12, 12-16, 16-20 and 20-24 weeks of age were found to be 374.42 ±7.21, 169.81 ±3.52, 106.15 ±1.84, 27.88 ±1.16, 28.88 ±1.17 and 20.43 ± 4.76 grams in male and 357.42 ±6.64, 160.20 ±2.86, 98.01 ±1.46, 24.79 ±1.12, 28.04 ±1.11 and 19.47 ±0.70 grams in female respectively. The relative growth rate percentage was significantly higher during earlier ages. As age advances the RGR decreases at all age groups except 16-20 weeks of age. Growth curve for male and female does not differ significantly.
