The present research work was done to study the cost of broiler production as influenced by the size of operation in Kashipur and Ramnagar areas of Uttaranchal state. The components of production cost could be grouped in to fixed cost & variable cost. The maximum depreciation cost on building was observed on the small size farms (Re.0.694/broiler) & the lowest depreciation cost was hooted on large size farms (Re .0.617/ broiler). The depreciation cost on buildings accounted for 1.78, 1.62 & 1.58 % per broiler on the small, medium & large size farms. The depreciation on equipment in small, medium & large size farms was found to be Re. 0.294, 0.343 & 0.310 respectively, per broiler which it accounted for 0.75, 0.88 & 0.79 % per broiler on small, medium & large size farms. The total fixed cost was maximum Rs. 0.985 / broiler at small sized farms and lowest in large sized farms Re. 0.927/ broiler. The average fixed cost was Rs. 0.961/broiler. The total fixed cost accounted for 2.52, 2.49 & 2.38% of total cost on medium & large size farms. The total cost of production was maximum Rs. 39.06 per broiler on medium size farms & lowest Rs. 38.91 on large size farms. The overall average total cost was Rs. 38.99 per broiler.
